秒摆为单摆的一种特殊情况。由单摆週期公式 <math>{\displaystyle T=2\pi{\sqrt{\frac{L}{g}}}}</math> 可知，于地表附近（<math>g= 9.8 \mathrm{ m/s^2 }</math>），一摆长为 <math>1\text{ m }</math>的单摆，其週期 <math>T\approx 2.0\text{ s }</math>。也就是說，在地表上，我們可粗略地将摆长为 <math>1\text{ m }</math>的单摆視為是秒摆。
